Carrie Kennersly first appeared in Bite the Biscuit and one of the best ways to learn about a person is by asking questions, so let’s get to know Carrie.

What is your name?
Carrie Kennersly.

How old are you?
Thirty-three.

What is your profession?
I’m a veterinary technician–and that’s what led me to also become the owner of two adjoining stores: Barkery & Biscuits, where I sell some of the healthful dog treats I developed as a vet tech, and Icing on the Cake, where the treats are for people.

Do you have a significant other?
Yes–and it’s fun to admit that.

What is his name and profession?
Dr. Reed Storme, one of the veterinarians at the vet clinic where I still work part time.

Any children?
Yes–my adorable dog Biscuit, who’s a golden toy poodle-terrier mix.

Do you have any sibling(s)?
Yes, my brother Neal, who works at the Knobcone Heights Resort and lives in my house with me.

Do your parents live near you?
No.

Who is your best friend?
Wilhelmina–Billi–Matlock. She’s a City Councilwoman, owner of a day spa, and, most important to me, the owner of Mountaintop Rescue.

Cats, dogs or other pets?
Mentioned above: my Biscuit!

What town do you live in?
Knobcone Heights, California.

House or building complex? Own or Rent?
I live in a house I own in Knobcone Heights, and my brother Neal lives there, too.

What is your favorite spot in your house?
The living room, I suppose, where I can veg out watching TV or visiting with Neal or Reed and, of course, Biscuit.

Favorite meal? Favorite dessert?
Can’t say for sure what my favorite meal is, but my favorite desserts are those cakes and scones and other goodies I bake at Icing on the Cake.

Favorite hobby?
Walking with dogs–and, of course, saving animals.

Favorite color?
Possibly gold: Biscuit’s color.

Favorite author?
Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of time to read–although I’m aware some of my stories are being published after I solve murders, whether I like it or not. So maybe Linda O. Johnston is my favorite author.

Favorite vacation spot?
Who has time for a vacation?

Favorite sports team?
I’m not really into sports.

Movies or Broadway?
Not really into them, either.

Are you a morning or a night person?
I’m more a morning person since I have to get up very early each day to hurry to my shops to begin baking.

Amateur sleuth or professional?
Amateur.

Whom do you work with when sleuthing?
My friends and family are my assistants of sorts, including my brother Neal, four assistants at my shops. Not so much Reed, though, since he’s always worried about me when I’m sleuthing.

In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
As I mentioned, I wake up early and head for my shops to start baking. Eventually, my assistants for the day arrive and help to get things ready, including adding the baked goods to the display cases of Barkery and Biscuits, and Icing on the Cake, as appropriate. We then open the doors and customers come in. I give them, or their dogs, samples and help to sell our products. Later in the day, I generally head to Knobcone Veterinary Clinic for my shift as a vet tech that day and bring some leftover treats to hand out there–and it’s always fun to see my guy Dr. Reed Storme, as well as the head vet, Dr. Arvus–Arvie–Kline. Later, I visit Mountaintop Rescue where I see my friend Billi Matlock and hand over some other treats. Whenever possible, I also visit my favorite coffee shop and restaurant, Cuppa-Joe’s, since the Joes are kind of like my local surrogate parents. I return to my shops in time to help close them for the day. In the evening, Biscuit and I hopefully get together with Reed and his dog Hugo, a Belgian malinois, for dinner.

You can read about Carrie in For a Good Paws, the fifth book in the “Barkery & Biscuits” cozy mystery series, released May 8, 2019.

Ten years ago, Mike Holpurn was convicted of murdering the first female mayor of Knobcone Heights. Now, shortly after his release, Holpurn puts the whole town on edge by yelling at the former mayor’s husband, Henry Schulzer. After Schulzer is found dead, everyone assumes Holpurn is the culprit. But Carrie thinks there’s more to the story, especially since Holpurn claims Schulzer was the one who really killed the mayor.
