Sometime in October…
Once.
Just one time I let Baxter, my bullmastiff, up on the bed and now he thinks he owns it. He allows me about 4 inches of space on the edge and figures I should be grateful. After everything we’ve been through together, I’ve gotten attached to the big lug. But I never should have let him on the bed. At least he doesn’t steal the covers.
So, once again, I woke up clinging to the side of my mattress and having nightmares about cliffs.
But, even while I carefully sit up and try not to roll onto the floor, I’m focused on the positive. For one thing, the Fall Festival is in high gear and I am done with all my planning duties. I only have to show up to help my friend, Diana, run her vendor’s booth and shop for pumpkin pie. After last summer’s murder investigation, adopting the above-mentioned large dog, and quitting my job in Ann Arbor, I could use some pie.
I could also use some time with Mac. I know he likes pie. I thought that both of us moving back to Crystal Haven would mean we would see each other all the time, but it hasn’t worked out that way so far. I’ve been busy helping Diana plan the festival, he’s been busy tying up loose ends at his old job and investigating crimes here in Western Michigan (but, fortunately, not in our relatively quiet village). I have one final commitment and then we’ll have time for a proper date.
Tonight, Diana is performing a Halloween ceremony in the woods and I said I would bring my Aunt Violet along. Vi loves this kind of thing – the spookier the better. Diana made me promise to stay and keep Vi in line. Her…curiosity…can be difficult to control. But, I’m sure it will be fine. What could go wrong? At midnight. In the woods. On Halloween.
Right?

My beagle always took up 3/4 of the bed. I can only imagine a mastiff! After really enjoying “Pall in the Family,” I am looking forward to this next installment–such a fun series. Thanks for the chance!

Sounds great, would love to read/win this book. thank you for the giveaway
Sounds like Aunt Violet might stir things up.
Cute–it’s true if you give an inch to those cute dogs, they don’t want to give it back! Thanks!
would love to read this, thank you for the chance to win
I have this on my ever growing tbr list, it sounds like a fun read. I know what you mean about the dog on the bed, however mine is a cat that keeps edging over until I realize I’m on the edge of a queen size bed.
Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I would love to add this book to my list of to read books. Much like dogs our cats have declared their area on our bed. Oh what we deal with for the love of our animals.
As someone who used to share my bed with a Boxer I know that dogs do seem to believe what yours is theirs, I like this introduction. Being able to have a companion who loves you and is willing to allow you to share with them is quite a blessing.
Unfortunately, I didn’t know anything about this series but it certainly does look like it would be interesting and fun to read. Thank you for adding me to the list of book-seekers, Dru.
Hope your day is great.
Cynthia
At least I only have to fight for space with a Pug. I love Fall and love Halloween. No parties or dressing up, but I watch all the old classic scary movies again. Midnight in the wood on Halloween . . . sounds pretty scary, too.
I love this fun series. I’m looking forward to reading the book.
I finally got to read the first book in this series when the Brooklyn Public library bought ONE copy for circulation. I’d love to win this book for my very own.
Please toss my hat into the contest ring Dru.
This sounds like a great book. Can’t wait to read

Oh my…yet another series to read! I haven’t read the first one yet, guess I have some catching up to do. If it wasn’t for you and folks who do what you do Dru Ann, I’d never know about all of these great little cozy mysteries…lucky for me I follow the blogs! Thanks for the chance to win.
Would love to win this book but must get the first one as it sounds like a great series.
A great book and very interesting series. thanks.
I have 2 beagles that steal all the bed—so I can just imagine what a mastiff can do.

a mastiff! can’t wait to read it
I NEED to read this!!!!
So many things to like about this book: Fall, Family heritage, Witches and Mystery!
I haven’t read any books by this author, but it sounds really good. Thanks for the chance to win it.
I like the way Clyde talks about the dog taking over the bed. Sometimes I want my little gracie or lazlo in the bed with me. I think that wouldn’t be such a good idea to let them in the bed, because they might take over too. .
