We interrupt our regularly scheduled “a day in the life of” to bring you this special feature.

Stephanie Plum is in post production right now, but stepping in for her is her creator, Janet Evanovich, who agreed to answer a few questions.

Are there times when you absolutely hate your characters and want to kill them off? Or even had killed one off but then didn’t use it.

I can’t say that I have. I really have come to like my primary and secondary characters and don’t think I could say goodbye to them. Also, I’d hate to do that to the readers who have been rooting for them for years.

Do you have a favorite deadline food?

Cheetos, Cheez Doodles or anything cheesy that crunches.

Do you have any techniques you use when you get stuck in the writing process?

I don’t tend to get stuck. I think it’s because I outline every book before I begin to write. I don’t paint myself into plot corners that way.

Is there anything about Stephanie Plum’s character you would change?

I don’t think so. She has an “every woman” quality that readers can identify with.

If you have to describe the Stephanie Plum books using six words, what would they be?

Klutzy, sarcastic, funny, loyal, tolerant and klutzy. She’s so klutzy, I had to say it twice.

Are we going to see Valerie and her family again?

Most of the secondary characters have a way of weaving in and out of the books. The Kloughns are so popular and so much fun to write, I’m pretty sure we’ll be hearing from them again in the not-to-distant future.

Which movie character do you think was the best?

I think Katherine Heigl really nailed the Stephanie character, but everyone did a great job. I really like the movie.
