Hi, I’m Jill, owner of the coffee shop and bookstore, Coffee, Books, and More, here in South Cove, California. We’re a beachy tourist town and I’m also in charge of the business-to-business group. Which means I get to run a meeting about local events and issues of importance like the lack of twice a week trash services. Mostly we talk about our different promotional and marketing events.

This month, Tina, the mayor’s wife brought in a speaker. Harper Sanchez is our newest business owner and an upscale clothing designer. My aunt hired her to do dresses for her and me for my upcoming engagement party. The problem is Harper, doesn’t really like public speaking, and she’s horrible at it. We went through a lot of coffee, just to keep everyone awake.

After the meeting, Sherry King, Greg’s ex-wife, and owner of Vintage Duds, a designer resale shop, decides to pick a fight with Harper. In front of EVERYONE. Now, most people know Sherry is all about herself, but she’s put herself in a bad spot this time.

Because when I went to pick up my engagement party dress at Harper’s shop? I found a body. One that looks a lot like Harper. I thought it was her until she surprised me by walking across the street from having lunch at Diamond Lille’s.

Now Greg’s going to have to either arrest his ex for murder or find out who really did it. As his fiancée, I’m hoping for the former. Okay, that sounded bad, but Sherry’s just a piece of work. And I could see her killing someone. In fact, I’ve worried that she was coming after me from time to time, since I stole her man. Which really didn’t happen. Greg was divorced before we even said two words to each other.

I’m just a better fit and will be a much better Mrs. King.

Wow, I’m really putting my foot in my mouth here. Maybe I should just stop talking about Sherry. She totally gets under my skin. I’m going to take Emma for a run and think about seagulls, waves, and beach time rather than dead bodies and murder.

At least I’m going to try. It could happen.

Hope to see you all later. Emma’s ready to go now.

Jill

Jill couldn’t love police chief Greg King more—so why does that engagement ring still feel funny on her finger? At least she’ll have a chance to show it off this Saturday at their engagement party. Just in time for the event, a new dress shop has opened in town, Exquisite Gowns for You, specializing in designer wedding gowns and other custom-fit dresses.

But Jill’s excitement turns to shock when she comes by to pick up her dress for the party and discovers a dead body in the shop. New owner Harper Sanchez is behaving strangely and emerging as more mysterious than anyone expected. Despite Greg’s warnings to leave the case to him, Jill can’t help looking into the murder. Somebody in South Cove is dressed to kill—and if Jill’s not careful, she may not live to wear her wedding gown . . .
