Kate Davidson first appeared in Murder Strikes a Pose and one of the best ways to learn about a person is by asking questions, so let’s get to know Kate.

What is your name?
Kate Davidson.

How old are you?
Thirty-five, though I was thirty-two when I solved my first murder.

What is your profession?
I own a yoga studio, Serenity Yoga. I also teach there, of course. 😉

Do you have a significant other?
Yes, the wonderful Michael Massey. I can’t believe he’s put up with me for three years now.

What is his name and profession?
Michael owns a pet supply business, Pete’s Pets.

Any children?
No, unfortunately. We’re trying, but. . .

Do you have any sibling(s)?
I’m an only child.

Do your parents live near you?
My dad raised me, but he passed away, unfortunately. I’ve recently reconnected with my mother, Dharma. She lives about four hours away on Orcas Island, a small island off the coast of Washington.

Who is your best friend?
Rene, by far. She and I have been best friends since we were teenagers.

Cats, dogs or other pets?
I own a crazy German shepherd named Bella, who I adore. We are both owned by a polydactyl cat named Mouse.

What town do you live in?
Seattle, WA.

House or building complex? Own or Rent?
I inherited my dad’s Ballard bungalow when he passed away. Michael and I remodeled it recently to expand the kitchen and add a second bathroom, but other than that, it’s exactly the way it was when I grew up in it. I adore my house.

What is your favorite spot in your house?
The upstairs bathroom. The jetted tub was the one luxury Dad allowed himself, and I love the spa-like atmosphere.

Favorite meal? Favorite dessert?
Favorite meal is a tough one these days. Michael is a fabulous cook, and he’s really embraced vegetarian cooking. His vegan chili is to die for. Dessert?
No contest. Michael’s vegan, dark chocolate brownies.

Favorite hobby?
I don’t know if I can call yoga a hobby anymore, since it’s how I make my living, so I’ll have to say getting dragged around by Bella. Any time spent with her is amazing.

Favorite color?
Violet. The same color I painted my house.

Favorite author?
My favorite book is The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, which was written about two thousand years ago. The attributed author is Patanjali, though no one knows if Patanjali was a person or a group of people.

Favorite vacation spot?
Cannon Beach, Oregon. Michael grew up there. It’s also where we got married.

Favorite sports team?
Seattle Seahawks all the way!

Movies or Broadway?
Movies, especially old black-and-white ones.

Are you a morning or a night person?
Night, definitely. Which makes teaching those early morning yoga classes beyond brutal.

Amateur sleuth or professional?
Amateur, though I was raised by a cop, so I have a few connections at the Seattle Police Department.

Whom do you work with when sleuthing?
Who don’t I work with?
Rene and Bella are usually my partners in crime, though Michael and his assistant, Tiffany, have helped on occasion. Attorney Dale Evans, my mother’s boyfriend, has helped a time or two. In my newest mystery, Murder Likes It Hot, Rene’s husband, Sam gets in on the action.

In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
Typical?
What could possibly be typical in the life of a yoga teacher who gets mixed up on murder?
A small business owner gets to work any twelve hours a day she likes, so when I’m not on a case, I spend most of my time working, entertaining Bella, and trying to befriend Mouse. Michael and I meet back at home, share a bottle of wine, and eat dinner around ten o’clock. It’s a crazy life, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything!

You can read about Kate in Murder Likes It Hot, the sixth book in the “Downward Dog” cozy mystery series, released January 8, 2019.

When a center employee is found dead, Kate sets aside her fertility and financial woes to delve into the world of teenage homelessness. While digging for clues with her German shepherd Bella, Kate discovers that family can be formed by bonds stronger than shared DNA, and she must defend it at all costs.
