Dr. Katie LeClair first appeared in Unnatural Causes and one of the best ways to learn about a person is by asking questions, so let’s get to know Katie.

What is your name?
Katie LeClair.

How old are you?
30.

What is your profession?
I’m a family physician in a small private practice. Which means I’ve delivered babies, sat with an elderly patient during his last breath, and everything in between.

Do you have a significant other?
Yes.

What is his name and profession?
Matt Gregor. He’s also a physician.

Any children?
Don’t rush me!

Do you have any sibling(s)?
A brother, Caleb. He’s a few years younger than me, and we’ve been through a lot together. He lives with me right now and I hope he stays for a long time.

Does your parents live near you?
My mother died when I was young. I don’t know where my father is.

Who is your best friend?
Gabrielle Maldova. She’s an OB/GYN and we met in residency. We can’t help but be competitive – even our standing dinner date is a contest!

Cats, dogs or other pets?
Nope. I have enough trouble keeping Caleb in line. But I am an unofficial part of Bubba’s pack. He’s a black lab who belongs to my friend, Chief Carlson. I stitched Bubba up after a car accident and I get an exuberant doggy greeting when I visit. (I also bring treats, so maybe that explains his devotion.)

What town do you live in?
Baxter, Michigan. It’s about twenty minutes west of Ann Arbor.

House or building complex? Own or Rent?
I own a very cute, quite small, Victorian in Baxter. It was my first major purchase.

What is your favorite spot in your house?
Probably the dining room. I like to have people over for dinner and my brother, the computer expert, works at the dining room table, so I can always find him there.

Favorite meal? Favorite dessert?
Any meal cooked by someone else.
Scottish short bread is my go-to treat, but I wouldn’t turn down ice cream, cake, pie, or a desert cocktail.

Favorite hobby? Favorite color?
I don’t have time for hobbies, but I used to like to sketch and paint.
Purple.

Favorite vacation spot?
Anyplace woodsy.

Favorite author?
William Carlos Williams – a physician and a writer. His poetry always inspires me to be a better doctor.

Favorite sports team?
University of Michigan Wolverines. It’s required.

Movies or Broadway?
Movies – you can watch in your jammies.

Are you a morning or a night person?
Definitely a night person, which makes for difficult mornings.

Amateur sleuth or professional?
I’m not a sleuth, not really.

Whom do you work with when sleuthing?
If you insist on calling it that, I guess I work with Matt and Caleb.

In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
On clinic days, I usually hit the alarm several times before rushing out of the house with a coffee cup in one hand and a piece of toast in the other, trying not to spill. Clinic can be either slow and boring or so busy I barely have time to breathe. There is no in-between.

After clinic (or before, if I have a late clinic) I go to the hospital to see any patients there. Then back to the office for paperwork. Lots of paperwork.

In the evenings, if I’m not on call, I hang out with Caleb, or go out with Gabrielle or Matt. We like to try out different restaurants, but always return to Riley’s right here in Baxter.
