Sid Rubin first appeared in On a LARP and one of the best ways to learn about a person is by asking questions, so let’s get to know Sid.

What is your name?
Sid Rubin. Well technically, it’s Sidonie, but no one is allowed to call me that. Well, other than my grandmother, but she’s French. And she’s my Grandma.

How old are you?
Seventeen. Arguably going on forty.

What is your profession?
By Day: High School Student. By Night: Professional Brainiac with excellent extracurricular activities, including Coding and Sleuthing, also known as Crime Solving.

Do you have a significant other?
Ummmm, maybe? I’m not really sure about that. Can I get back to you?

What is her name and profession?
Ava. Student.

Any children?
No.

Do you have any sibling(s)?
A younger brother, Jean, who is mostly annoying, but occasionally has his uses.

Do your parents live near you?
Yes. Right down the hall. Woo Hoo.

Who is your best friend?
I have two. Jimmy “Five Fingers” Flynn is my oldest best friend, and Imani Cruz is my BFF.

Cats, dogs or other pets?
No. And not by choice, but by parental edict. Of course, this could explain why I love the statue of Balto in Central Park so much.

What town do you live in?
New York City, in Manhattan, not far from the heart of New York’s Cyber Haven, Silicon Alley.

House or building complex? Own or Rent?
Apartment. Co-op. Owned by aforementioned parents.

What is your favorite spot in your house?
My room.

Favorite meal? Favorite dessert?
My favorite meal wavers between diner burgers and fries, pizza (hey, I’m a New Yorker), and either falafel or tacos or sushi or the Korilla BBQ which is like Korean in a taco or. . . you know, maybe we should just move on. I like food. Dessert? Easy. Ice cream. Cookies and cream in a sugar cone is number one on the list. But well, fries, because sometimes, they’re desserts, too.

Favorite hobby?
Surfing the web, gathering tidbits of esoteric and arcane trivia, ostensibly to amuse and amaze my friends, but some of which have proven oddly useful in my not-so-undercover work.

Favorite color?
Toss up. The un-color. Black/White. The color, Indigo.

Favorite author?
I obsess over anyone who fascinates me, until I move on. Well, except for JK Rowlings. I NEVER MOVE ON. And also, the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. It’s by E. L. Konigsburg. And while I don’t think she’s my favorite author, deep down, sometimes I still want to be Claudia Kincaid and run away to Metropolitan Museum of Art and live off candy bars bought with “wishing money” left in the fountain, so I think she at least deserves a mention. Oh, and Joe Ruby and Ken Spears, who I suppose are tv writers and not “authors,” but they created my idol, “Velma,” so they are heroes to me.

Favorite vacation spot?
I’m going to say the High Line. which is in the middle of Manhattan where the “El” Trains used to run, as in elevated tracks, as in “look up.” Now, those tracks have been converted to an elevated path in the middle of the city. And yes, I do realize for most people, this isn’t technically a “vacation spot,” but when you’re seventeen and living with your parents, it’s the most awesome place to get away from it all!

Favorite sports team?
Our high school football team, which would be a kind of a surprising pick for me, except the Captain and Quarterback, Jimmy “Five Fingers” Flynn is my best friend.

Movies or Broadway?
ARGH. Can I go with both? “Wonder Woman,” complete and total awesomeness. But, since my BFF, Imani, is Broadway bound, I do actually know the lyrics to every single show out there.

Are you a morning or a night person?
Totally a night person. My school thinks I should be a morning person. My school is wrong.

Amateur sleuth or professional?
Amateur. I don’t even know how I get involved in these things.

Whom do you work with when sleuthing?
My posse – Jimmy, Imani, Ari, and Vikram. And sometimes Ze. And sometimes Joe. And the police, but they roll their eyes when they see us coming.

In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
I go to school. I hang out with friends. I do homework. I grunt answers. I try to temper my snarkiness. Mostly, I try to understand my life. I fail but I have fun trying.

You can read more about Sid in Say Her Name, the third book in the “Sid Rubin Sillicon Alley” mystery series, released December 10, 2019.

High-flying lesbionic brainiac Sid Rubin is caught up in the glow of new love—and the snowball fight of the century. Distraction in action, Sid forgets to duck and takes a full facial hit, launching her backward into Imani, who in turn slides down a hill, through a thicket, and amazingly, lands safely. Or so she thinks. Until she hears an ice crack and sees a fingertip rise through the small fissure.

Cue the scream.

Jimmy, Sid, Ari, and Vikram slip and slide their way to the rescue, somehow knowing that a chain of events has just been set in motion.

The finger becomes a hand, and then a body. It’s a young girl. And she’s not alone. There are seven more skeletons―unidentified and unclaimed. When Imani utters the words, “I want someone to say her name,” it’s time for the posse to round up and ride again―chasing a mystery across time, and states, and even continents. A genetic genealogy hunt that’s right up Sid’s Silicon Alley.

But there’s a glitch in the system, because Sid’s new girlfriend, Ava, has other plans. And Sid learns the hard way that before she can untangle someone else’s family tree, she will have to find her own roots.
