Sid Thackery first appeared in A Skeleton in the Family and one of the best ways to learn about a person is by asking questions, so let’s get to know Sid.

What is your name?
Sid Thackery.

How old are you?
Hard to say. I was in my early twenties when I died, and it’s been over twenty years since then. So I could say 22, 25, or 47. My adopted sister Deborah says I’m a perpetual teenager, but I consider myself more of an ageless beauty.

What is your profession?
Full-time student and stay-at-home skeleton.

Do you have a significant other?
I just haven’t met the right gal or guy.

What is his/her name and profession?
Hey, don’t rub it in!

Any children?
No, but I’m a courtesy uncle to Madison Thackery, the teenaged daughter of my housemate Georgia.

Do you have any sibling(s)?
I was raised with Georgia and Deborah, so you could call them my adopted sisters, though Georgia is my BFF and sister all rolled into one.

Cats, dogs or other pets?
That’s a sore point. Madison has a dog. Byron. I don’t like Byron. He likes me a bit too much. Like a human chew toy liking. Okay, maybe not human, but still. . .

What town do you live in?
Most of my life I was in Pennycross, Mass., a typical New England college town, and that’s still my home base. But Georgia is an adjunct English professor, and that means lots of moving around. Since I attached myself to her household more permanently, I’ve also lived in Falstone, MA and Overfeld, NH. There’s no telling where we’ll end up next.

House or building complex? Own or Rent?
House. At least the attic of one. Georgia’s parents own the place, so I guess I’m more of a squatter than anything else.

What is your favorite spot in your house?
The living room, either dancing, reading, or watching TV with Georgia and Madison.

Who is your best friend?
Georgia Thackery!

Amateur sleuth or professional?
While I consider my skills to be of professional quality, my circumstances preclude me from claiming any kind of professional credential. (Georgia isn’t going to read this, is she?)

Whom do you work with when sleuthing?
Georgia, of course, though she says I work with her. Madison is coming along very nicely as an assistant sleuth, and even Georgia’s parents and sister help out on occasion.

Favorite meal?
Not much into food.

Favorite dessert?
Same answer. It all goes right through me.

Favorite hobby?
Reading and computer gaming. My favorite MMORPG is Runes of Legend. I play this skald named. . . Yeah, this is probably more detail than you want.

Favorite vacation spot?
I’ve only been on one vacation, staying in a cabin by a lake in Overfeld, NH. That was awesome. I would love to be able to sneak into Disneyland some day, but haven’t quite figured out how.

Favorite color?
Bone white! No, just kidding. I like blue.

Favorite author?
Leigh Perry. Ha ha, just kidding again. My biographer made me put that in. I’ll go with Neil Gaiman.

Favorite sports team?
Not really a team sports guy, but I do like watching skeleton. It involves zooming skull-first down a steep ice track on this tiny sled they call a skeleton. Obviously, it was the name that first appealed to me, but I kind of got hooked after a while and started a small but devout Facebook group devoted to the sport.

Movies or Broadway?
Coccyx, I’d love to go to a Broadway show some day, but for now, I’ll stick with movies.

Are you a morning or a night person?
An all day person! I don’t sleep, you see.

In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
Normally, I head downstairs when the rest of the Thackery family gets up to keep them company during breakfast. Then when they head off to work and school, I go up to my room in the attic to tend to my social media, and do my classwork—I’m addicted to distance learning. When people come home, I head back downstairs and we do normal stuff. Of course, I have to hide if company comes over. After they go to bed, I do my gaming and reading. Of course, if there’s a case active, I’m on the job 24/7.

You can read about Sid in The Skeleton Makes a Friend, the fifth book in the “Family Skeleton” mystery series.

Georgia Thackery is feeling pretty good about her summer job teaching at prestigious Overfeld College, and she’s renting a rustic cabin right by a lake for herself, her daughter, Madison, and her best friend, Sid the Skeleton. Together again, the trio are enjoying the quiet when a teenager named Jen shows up looking for her friend. Georgia doesn’t recognize the name, but she learns that the person Jen was looking for is actually Sid.

Sid reveals that he and Jen are part of a regular online gaming group that formed locally, and one of their members has gone missing. Sid admits that he might have bragged about his investigative prowess, enough so that Jen wants him to find their missing player. Given that Sid doesn’t have many friends offline—none, really, unless you count the Thackery family—Georgia agrees to help him search. They manage to discreetly enlist Jen, who lives in town, and follow the clues to… a dead buddy.

Now they’ve got a killer on their hands. Probing the life of Sid’s friend, they realize a lot is wrong both on campus and in the seemingly quaint town, and someone doesn’t want them looking deeper.
