Diva Steals a Chocolate KissContrary to what most people think, my life as an event planner is not an endless string of parties. Sometimes I bristle a bit when people think all I do is plan weddings and parties. For instance, last night I finished up a Pharmaceutical Packaging Trade Show. There were some heavy partiers in the crowd, but it’s not quite the same as planning a gala or a wedding.

I live in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, in nodding distance of Washington, DC. Old Town has a quaint historic charm that I love. But Washington is the big draw for conventions.

I’ve been taking it easy this morning, now that the trade show has wrapped up. I even strolled around my garden with a mug of hot tea in hand when I let out my dog, Daisy. It’s a perfect summer day. Not too humid or hot yet. When I reluctantly returned to the house, Daisy ran to the front door and pawed at it, making me wonder if someone stood on the other side.

When I cracked the door a bit, all I found was a small, red box. I picked it up, looking for the person who had left it. There wasn’t a soul in sight.

I took it inside and opened it to find chocolates. Beautiful chocolates. No two were alike. Milk chocolate, dark chocolate, some had white chocolate drizzled across the tops. They were gorgeous. Like little brown gems.

They had to be from Alex, the guy I’ve been dating on and off. I called to thank him, but he denied any knowledge of the chocolates. When I hung up, I took a closer look. No store logo. No enclosure card. Nothing.

It didn’t sound like something my ex-husband Mars would do. He likes to get credit for thoughtful gestures. Still, I phoned him to see if he had left them. Nope.

The next job looming on my horizon was the 60th Anniversary of Amore Chocolates. Someone from Amore might have left it as a gift, but their boxes looked different.

It was odd that the box didn’t bear a logo or a note. Maybe it was some kind of promotion for Célébration du Chocolate, the new store that was about to open in Old Town. Maybe they wanted to create a buzz about the mysterious chocolates appearing on doorsteps?

In any event, I wasn’t about to eat the unidentified chocolates – no matter how delicious they looked!

But someone tries the luscious chocolates! Find out what happens in The Diva Steals A Chocolate Kiss.
