Good morning! Tessa Treslow here. Things are a little crazy right now, but I have a minute to share my day while I wait for the coffee pot to brew. It is cold out there today, but it is November in Northern Idaho, and has been snowing off and on. We’ve got to keep everyone’s blood pumping.

Aunt Edna agreed to have this TV show, Picks with Ricks, come here. They’re a show that goes through people’s old junk, “picking” or finding things to buy for resale in their store. The “Ricks” are Ricki Rainwater and Chick Richardson, and they are accompanied by their cameraman, Lucas Mortenson, the producer, Arthur Meyer, and his assistant, Irma Martinez. It makes for a lot of people tromping around!

We were surprised they chose to come to rural Idaho, but I guess there is a wealth of old buildings filled with old stuff here. Jeff Eriksson, our friend who runs the Sherwood Hardware store now, apparently put in an application for us after seeing all the stuff that could be valuable in our old garage.

So with the TV crew here, we haven’t had a normal day, which is making Aunt Edna a bit cranky. I get it, I’m happiest working on cars too, but this was part of a plan. We’re hoping to make a nice sum to put toward our new garage building and our restoration business, BOSS – Band of Sisters Services. We got bandanas made with our catchphrase, Call the She-canics, which I can’t wait to get on a shirt! Aunt Edna handed those things out like candy to the crew, but I guess that’s what promotional materials are for, right?

In addition to this activity, my best friend, Freddie, and my boyfriend, Nick, and I are all getting honored at the Veterans’ Day ceremony at the New Oslo High School on Saturday. It will be nice as they’re presenting us with Quilts of Valor, made by community volunteers. It’s things like that that make me happy I decided to stay in my hometown, and Idaho. It really is my home.

Well, the coffee is ready, so I need to run and play hostess to the crew! Wish us luck for many successful “picks”!

From author Rosalie Spielman comes a quiet hometown suddenly invaded by TV celebrities… and a killer!

Army retiree Tessa Treslow is as excited as the other residents of New Oslo, Idaho, when the cast and crew of the TV show Picks with Ricks comes to town! Tessa and her Aunt Edna put their car restoration business on hold to let the celebrity antique hunters pick through their old garage, hoping the trash contains a treasure that will help fund their new business. But it turns out that the pickers come with TV cameras, likeable stars, a stressed-out producer—and a murderer!

The show’s lead makes an insistent offer on one of Aunt Edna’s renovation projects and won’t take no for an answer. And when Tessa finds the show’s cameraman dead in the restored 1965 Mustang, Tessa knows murder has come home yet again. And the mystery takes a very personal turn when the dead man is found with an antique inscribed pocket watch connected to the former owners of Aunt Edna’s farmhouse. As Tessa digs into the history surrounding the pocket watch and the relationships of the TV crew, shocking details—both old and new—arise. Will Tessa be able to catch a killer…before they return for a repeat performance?
