Why do you write the genre that you write?
I write what I most like to read. While I enjoy books from all genres, mystery and crime fiction have long been my favorites—I love trying to figure out the answers alongside the detectives in the story. Which works well for my “pantser” writing style, because most of the time I’m trying to figure out the answer alongside the characters as I write, too.

Tell us how you got into writing?
I have been a book person for as long as I can remember— I was the kid who got grounded from reading when mom wanted a punishment that would really get my attention. My freshman year in high school I wrote a paper for my health class that inspired the health teacher to recommend that the journalism teacher invite me to join the newspaper staff. By Christmas that year, I had abandoned my goal of becoming an attorney—I felt journalism was almost a calling for me. I got to listen to people tell their stories and then go back to the office and write, and I couldn’t imagine anything better than getting paid for that. Turns out that for a mom, there’s one thing better: making the stories up and getting paid to write them. I’m very lucky to be able to be home with my children and do something I love for a living.

What’s next for you?
With the launch of the fourth Faith McClellan novel, Nowhere To Hide coming up soon, I’m getting ready to turn in the fifth book in that series and looking forward to the launch of the ninth Nichelle Clarke novel, which will be here before I know it.

What are you reading now?
This time of year I start to look back at my favorite reads of the year, and this year was a great year for books: I had a three way tie! Laura McHugh’s What’s Done In Darkness, S.A. Cosby’s Razorblade Tears, and Tara Laskowski’s The Mother Next Door. All three are haunting stories filled with characters that lingered in my brain for weeks, and I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Where can we find you?
I spend the most time on Facebook, at lyndeewalkerbooks, and am also often on Twitter at @lyndeewalker. I have an Instagram account at @lyndeewalkerbooks, but that’s the one I often forget to check when life is busy (which it often is).

Now to have some fun . . .

Vanilla or chocolate
Vanilla, only because I’m allergic to chocolate.

Pizza or burgers
Tough call! But I’d say my husband’s burgers win this one—his pandemic project was learning
how to make the perfect hamburger, and he accomplished it with flair.

Broccoli or squash
Squash. Usually in soup.

Breakfast, lunch, or dinner
Lunch—dinner requires a lot of effort in our house, coming up with and cooking a meal five people
will enjoy, but lunch is more relaxed. I rarely have anything but coffee before noon.

Mountain or beach
BEACH. Emphatically, in all caps–it’s my happy place.

Introvert or Extrovert
Extrovert, mostly. I enjoy meeting and talking to people.

And even more fun . . .

You are stranded on a deserted island. What are your three must-haves?
A water filter, some string, and some matches. We watched a lot of MacGyver in my house as a kid.
